 Lip Repositioning Surgery

Excessive gingival display, commonly referred to as a “gummy smile”, can be a source of embarrassment for some people because the gums are shown so prominently when the person smiles. At least 50% of patients show some of their gums (about 1 – 2 mm) in a normal smile. However, exaggerated or forced smile patterns in many people can show excessive gums (4 mm or more).

Lip repositioning is a surgical procedure that restricts the muscle pull of the lips.  This reduces the amount of gums showing when the person smiles. This procedure is relatively safe, predictable, and with minimal risk or side effects.  It can be an effective method for  correcting a gummy smile.
